These kids from South Korea have been in Atlanta for the week at Georgia Tech...

These kids (and four moms) from the Korea International School in Bundang-Pangyo, South Korea (everyone but Alex, who lives in Suwanee, GA), have been in Atlanta for the week at Georgia Tech summer camp.

They were so excited when I suggested that a photo of the whole group jumping might make it look like they were flying off the mountain. But, while everyone goofed around and got into place so I could count to three and take the shot, one of the older boys sarcastically blurted out that South Korea was the country with the highest suicide rate.

"Is that really true?" I asked, disguising my surprise that one of these sweet kids, ages 8-14, would make the leap from innocently jumping to suicide. Someone else nearby chimed in that it had to be Japan that had the highest rate. So I looked it up at home later, and, sure enough, South Korea is #3 behind Lithuania and Greenland (the U.S. is #33 and Japan is #10). Before they rushed down the mountain to see the Laser Show, I was able to remind them that Stone Mountain is called out by name in Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech and how very special it is that they found their way here for the first time all the way from South Korea (except for witty little Alex, who's been here before and said he thinks his name is Greek).
