"We practice out here so our neighbors don't throw things at us," joked Geno and Janice, members of the Atholl Highlanders Pipes & Drums.

The Stone Mountain-based bagpipe band has been around since 1981 (mind you, with the direct blessing of George Murray, the 10th Duke of Atholl, to wear the Murray of Atholl tartan). Their performances range from the 1996 Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games and Super Bowl XXXIV to numerous Braves games, most recently the PGA Tournament opening ceremonies, and one of their pipers even played at my dearly departed sister Kerrie's memorial four years ago. Expect to see them, of course, at the 42nd Annual Stone Mountain Highland Games (aka the Scottish Festival) October 17-19 (though beware of kilted boozehounds, or you just might see too much)!
