Sometimes a Scarf is Just a Scarf

Today I encountered so many Muslim families climbing Stone Mountain that I wondered for a minute if my $2 thrift store scarf perhaps looking like a hijab. These families had attended the last day of the 20th Annual Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) Southeastern Conference at the Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel & Convention Center. Chatting with the Anees Family, I even asked one of the daughters wearing a colorful head wrap if it did, and she shook her head no with a friendly laugh. A few minutes later I introduced myself to a member of the Gonzalez Cruz family from Alajuela, Costa Rica, as she wore a bright red scarf-hat almost exactly like mine, and we had a big laugh about it.
