A Deer Planet

Confession: sometimes I stand for too long over the avocados at the grocery store. I squeeze so many and admit to feeling a fair amount of displaced compassion for the gouged and overripe ones that will go uneaten in their lifetimes. True story, I eat an avocado almost every day (now you know my secret!). But, speaking of well-placed compassion, when I see sweet deer out on a cold winter evening, my heart swells at how they'll stay warm together at night. I go so far as to picture their huddling. And just the sight of them and the doves foraging and pecking on the ground is the best sort of reminder to take care of this planet.
